What is Goldwell Open Air Museum
Who we are
You’ll encounter a life-size, ghostly interpretation of the Last Supper painting by Leonardo Da Vinci; a 25-foot high pink woman made of cinder blocks; a 24-foot high steel prospector accompanied by a penguin; a blossoming tangle of gleaming chrome car parts; and an exquisitely carved winged woman reaching for the sun from high atop a wooden pillar by the original Belgian artists, as well as new pieces by contemporary American artists.
We are located on a desolate plot of land in the Nevada Amargosa Desert walking distance from the infamous ghost town of Rhyolite and 4 miles from the eastern entrance of the Death Valley National Park.
Our Mission
The Goldwell Open Air Museum mission is to encourage creativity, human curiosity, and deepen an appreciation of the Amargosa Desert’s unique landscape and history. Through artistic exploration and public engagement, we celebrate harmony between art, nature, and the environment. By encouraging artists and visitors alike to immerse themselves in this extraordinary environment, we honor the outdoor sculpture museum’s legacy and its connection to the land, ensuring its continued impact for generations to come.
The mission is achieved by:
Fostering conservation and thoughtful development within the park to cultivate an environment where creativity can thrive.
Creating meaningful opportunities for artists, practitioners, and communities to engage with and expand upon Nevada’s unique art and land art heritage.
Ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the museum through strategic planning and resource stewardship.
Strengthening our role as a national and international cultural destination, contributing to the economic vitality of Beatty, Nevada.
